BB57 Build

Posted in Warships on February 28, 2008 by bb26

The month of February has been a good month for construction of my newest warship. The USS South Dakota (BB57) is well on it’s way towards completion. I am hoping to have it available for sea trials by April 1st.  The scale of the warship is 1/144. There was little done on this boat last year as I was more preoccupied with my wedding plans.

I had originally purchased the hull last year and had the deck installed. But during  the year I hated the deck that was installed. The deck material was too thin. So in November of this year the entire ship was gutted. Any work I had done was trashed. The deck was removed and a new one was cut.  Try shaving sintra with a dollar store knife. It was a pain in the ass. So after a build session The Sodak had a new deck cut and taped down to proper width.

In December I decided to fibreglass resin in the deck. The weather turned cold and I don’t think it dried properly in spots. Or the hardener did not work well. Anyways the deck was installed and it seems to be holding well. During that time I made sure I had my parts supply brought up to speed with a few orders to Battlers Connection.

February has seen some tremendous progress on the Sodak. Thanks to Craig for helping to build the super structure. That was a great relief. So far the deck hatches have been cut, the Barbette’s have been installed, the bb cannons have been installed, some water channelling done and the interior armour to protect the internals from damage. I have started work on installing the gears.

So if you wish to see pics of the work, then go to www.rcnavalcombat.comand check out the North Atlantic Battle Squadron. It is under the topic Sodak build.

Pot Holes v Chickens

Well living in HRM is a different experience. We have such a dysfunctional city council that it resembles more romper room than council room. It is pot hole season but the council is taking up time to get rid of 3 chickens some had as a pet. They wanted “fresh” eggs.  Pot holes around the city are getting more and more frequent. It looks more like a WWI battle field than a road. I am just waiting for a crater to claim either a tire or my alignment. My bet is on the alignment.  Don’t get me started on how long it took them to create a cat bylaw. Of course in areas close to the waterfront, people are now complaining about rats. No wonder. No cats out hunting them down. Well it is nice to know our cats deserve so much attention from the politicians. Too bad the roads and everything else does not get the same look.

NFL Go Home

Posted in General Crap on February 4, 2008 by bb26

Well the NFL has announced the Buffalo Bills will be playing some pre- season games in Toronto as well as a regular season home game here as well. I say to the NFL to GO HOME. It would be a complete shame if the NFL kills the CFL. The CFL is a much better product. The NFL has the advertising and marketing. There are some differences between the two leagues. The first is the ball. The NFL has a ball that is easier to throw but you could not kick very far. When I see NFL place kickers having issues of 40 yards i have to laugh. In the CFL it is a tough kick only after 55 yards. Downs The CFL 3 the NFL 4. No 15 minute drive to eat the clock. More possessions means more opportunities to score. The field is longer in the CFL. The CFL has 1 extra player. And don’t forget end-zone. The big end-zone makes it tougher for the defence. I would challenge anyone with an open mind to watch a CFL game and an NFL game. I bet you would like the CFL game better as there are more points on the score board.

Super Bore!!

Posted in General Crap, WTF on February 3, 2008 by bb26

Well it is Super Bore (I mean Bowl) weekend. Could there be anything more hyped to produce a nausea inducing game? Is there any reason to have endless hours of inane chatter from talking heads. I mean as much as I like as I like the Fox pregame for most Sundays. Hours and hours of drivel does not impress me. Then there is the legalized gouging for those that want to attend the event.  You can’t turn on tv without some reference to the Super Bowl. It doesn’t matter if the world is falling apart. How many people are aware of the continuing violence in Kenya? Or the battles in Chad? All that matters is the Super Bowl. A sporting event with millionaire players playing for their billionaire owners in front of people who could not find Chad and Kenya on a marked map. So enjoy the Toilet Bowl.
